Manchester United have accepted a world record offer of £80m from Real Madrid for winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

"United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player," read a statement from the Old Trafford club.

It added the decision came at the 24-year-old Ronaldo's request after he "again expressed his desire to leave".

United said the offer was unconditional and want the matter to be concluded by 30 June, while Madrid hope to agree personal terms "in the next few days".

"Real Madrid confirm they have made an offer to Manchester United for the acquisition of the rights of the player Cristiano Ronaldo," said the Spanish club in a statement.

Fucking hell that was a shock!! I don't think anyone expected that.

Seriously though... Ribery will do nicely as a more hardworking replacement with a top attitude. And that leaves 40 million for Villa or Aguero. Gotta keep Tevez too now really otherwise that's a lot of rebuilding to do.

man united will still be the best in the world without him. Ferguson can buy 3-4 top notch players with that money.

Well you're the only one...

Not quite true. He cares about his name; his legacy. He isn't loyal because he only cares about how good 'Ronaldo' is remembered as. So in his mind going to Madrid (who even I must admit are still the biggest in the world) and winning everything again will get him closer to being greatest ever.

I don't mind really... he served us well and gave everything he could so he has the right to chose his job. Everyone else does after all. We could actually get stronger if we spend the money right.

Tis true, especially with Cannavaro off to Juventus again.
Back to Ronaldo, sad to see him go but good business at the end of the day for a transfer that was always gonna happen.
Oh and Maz, tough times for your fantasy team without Ronaldo to carry it next season :P

Are you kidding? I had him for one week this year, in their double game week towards the end of the year. Needless to say, he was substituted before 60 minutes in one game and did fuck all in the other.

I agree with Sean Lock, for 80 million pounds you should be such a good player u make the game obsellete, so u have to play in a sack to make it fair
