I was talking to my boy the other day (the one i always mention in these topics)

The way i see it there are 2 factors which influence our decsisions in life those being our brains/personality... along with external factors

The way our brains work is determined by the DNA which inherit from our parents (something which we have no choice in) Holdtight the mandem who got parred by mumzie

the external factors which determine our decisions such as growing up things we are tought in school etc are something which we have no choice in

So if we have no choice in either of these to do we realy have freedom of choice?

Are we realy responsible for our actions?

either way that will only make up influence

the choice made by you personally is still entirely there, and can be affected by external factors which could randomly occur and not be based on information provided at school/home, these can influence your decision and thus forcing you to exercise your free will

Ok Say A punced B in the face

B if he inherited pussy genes from his parents and grew up in an enviroment where violence wasnt around then he probably wouldnt punch A back alie?

But...

If B had violent parents (who he got his genes) and grow up in the bits were violence happened often he would more then likely tump him up back alie?

both situation B had no choice in the matter

So is his choice in the way he reacts realy hes own....

it'd depend on other factors though, depends who person A was in connection with person B.

Ok So if i made a robot

This robot is bare clever because i gave it artificial intelligence But can also adapt its thinking to past experience (these 2 both more or less being same as (genes from parents and upbringing)

everythink this robots does with be dependent on how i created it also its past experiences both are not of the robots doin so can the robot be responsible for its action even if they are bad?

A way I onced heard about not having free was the atom threoy. The atom will collide with other atoms, on a certain path at a certain time. They is no changing the path it takes as its already been made. If it hits another atom this would already be forseen. So even if we do feel in control we arent really.

What do you think of these threoy?
Can everything be predicted if you know what to look for?

this makes no sense..... u have the wrong idea of the free will vs determinism argument and the "Punching" example is a bad one.... as u said his parents r violent how could say he got that from his parents genes if u cant determine if they have it in there genes or is it a result of their environment......? but really wt ur getting at here is part of the nature/nurture debate more than free will?

now its been a long time since i did my Psychology A-level so i might not have this spot on but:

Free will: We are fully in control of r actoins n base decisions on past exps etc.

Determinism: Actions r controlled subconsciously n r motivated by r inbuilt need to survive until sexual maturity and reproduce (probs got this wrong)

Nature: we are purely a product of r genetics regardless of environment

Nurture: we are purely a product of r environment and upbringing.

to test these things they use to to studies on separated twins n i could waffle on for 10 more sides of A4 but ill just say as with all these things it ends up being a mixture of the above
