Ferrari driver Felipe Massa will be kept under forced comma sedation for 48 hours after he suffered a fractured skull during Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying.
The Brazilian hit a tyre wall after a spring from Rubens Barrichello's car flew up and hit his helmet at a speed of 160mph.

After being struck on the head, Massa's feet are believed to have come to rest on both the throttle and brake and his car ploughed head on into a tyre wall at around 125mph.
as a huge fan i hope to god he doesn't get brain damage, this is really sad. It hasn't been a good week for Motorsport, the son of motorsport legend John Surtees was killed in a "freak" accident during a Formula Two (F2) race at Brands Hatch in Kent.[/CENTER]

"Near death" is a bit extreme, his condition was described as serious but stable.

You've been reading sky news haven't you?
Yea, it was serious, but i think using the word "death" is abit extreme in all honesty. But even still, wish him all the best and hope he's soon back to racing.

still in a forced comma, the only worry is the brain damage. no dr can predict how bad it'll be. hopefully it'll be nothing! but if it is, it could be the end of his career :(

I have the upmost respect for Massa. After he lost world title last year he was so dignified in defeat despite losing at the last corner. He should be okay, but going into a tyre wall at that speed is bad enough even when you are concious.

Without the pressure of the helmet on his head, his skull would probably of just collapsed. Just goes to show how good the safety is now a'days, even though everyones moaning about it, now there has been 1, nearly 2 deaths in 2 weeks.
He wont race again, his skull is fractured, even once its healed it wont stand the G force of racing, and what about the damage to his eye? if he cant see as perfect as he could before it happened, then he cant race either. And thats IF he doesnt have any brain damage :(

It is true. And even as a non-fan of Formula 1 I find it amazing.

How do u think he will get on

Well, recently Glock (I think) organised a go-karting day for all the F1 drivers or something. Most turned up plus some who were retired. Schumacher was still the fastest. Given that the Ferrari looks like it might be starting to fly from Raikkonen's race i think Schu could win a couple of races. Then it's easy to see him being tempted back into the seat instead of Massa with Alonso replacing Kimi next year. If that happenes it WILL be number 8. Lots of 'ifs' mind.

i dont think Shu will win the next race tho, he's never done it and he cant practice on it for some reason or other, he can only simulate it with his car. so we see how he does on that one

Dunno if he will be any good at the start, the car are different than we he last used them so he may take 2-3 races to get used to them, after that...who knows :)
